Designer dogs: Scoland Terrier

Update: Here is a link to photos of Scottie Westie mixes on Flickr. They have both black and white Scoland terriers or Wescotts if you prefer.
A Scoland Terrier is what you get when you cross a Scottie and a Westie. And to make sure you’ve got the real thing, you can order your dog DNA tested, a practice which is apparently becoming more and more popular as the price of DNA analysis plummets.

For more on hybrid or so-called designer dogs, this excellent article appeared in the New York Times magazine this past winter. No Scotties but interesting nevertheless.

  1. I am looking for a black female scoland terrier puppy to be a companion to my 8 year old scoland terrier. I have had NO luck finding one, I live in the Tri-cities of Washington state. Can anyone help? Thanks!

    1. Did you have any luck finding a breeder of scoland terriers? We had a wonderful fellow for 18 years, and would love to get another.

  2. These guys breed scolands, no black ones at this time, but you can get on their list for future litters. Biggest problem, they are in Nebraska! If you find any closer to the west coast, I’d love to know too! 🙂

  3. Cathy, maybe try a rescue? The organization for your area is Good luck! B

    1. Would you believe we adopted from the human society a three-month old terrier mix that was just wandering the streets of Vallejo, CA — and after a bit of research, I’m pretty sure she’s a Scoland Terrier (or a Scoland mixed with something). She is smart, funny, stubborn, and sooooo cute!
