Poor old Barney the first dog seems to be suffering one indignity after another as of late. Dissed first by Vladimir Putin and then by Karl Rove, it now comes to light that he has also been spanked by long-time Bush buddy, Clay Johnson.
“Barney was on the oval carpet making a nuisance of himself,” Johnson told me. “So I spanked him and told him, ‘No!’ and I put him on the sofa with me. I think that’s the only time he’s been spanked.”
“That shows what a close friend Clay is,” said Logan Walters, Bush’s former personal assistant, who witnessed the event. “He’s the only person I know who could spank the president’s dog, inside or outside the Oval Office.”
Barney’s recent troubles are sparking all sorts of tasteless Scottish Terrier “jokes” so you’ll be relieved to know that the Scottish Terrier and Dog News registered an official complaint in the comments.
