Statue will honour Scottie-owning Russian clown

Given that Russia is headed by a president known for ridiculing Scottish Terriers, it came as something of a surprise to the Scottie News to learn that one of the country’s most beloved entertainers was a clown called Karandash who performed with his Scottish Terrier, Klyaksa, variously translated as blot and ink spot.

Earlier this month, the Monument Art Committee of the Moscow City Duma decided to erect a bronze monument to the famous clown Karandash and his stage partner dog near the House of Circus Workers Union of Russia, where Karandash (Mikhail Rumyantsev) lived and worked for many years.

At the same time, the monument committee rejected a proposal to erect a statue of President Vladimir Putin in central Moscow, with one official saying it was an issue for “future generations.”
