Scottie dog gets treatment for SLO

The owner of Sophie, a 3 1/2 year old Scottish Terrier, who suffers from an autoimmune disorder known as Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy (SLO), has provided helpful photographic documentation and a description of the dog’s plight at Flickr:

(The disease) causes her own immune system to attack the nail beds of her feet. The nails grow miss-shapened and break to the quick. It is actually the quick which deteriorates and the nails come loose. Very painful…She had to have the nails removed (under anesthetic) and now with antibiotics, Niacinamide, and EFA’s omega 3 and 6 etc. will hopefully regrow healthy nails. She has a long road ahead. She is feeling much better!

The Scottie News wishes brave Sophie a 100% recovery.
