What do you feed your Scottish Terrier?

A reader writes:

I have a 4.5 month old Scottie and I was wondering if you recommended Frontline Plus or K9 Advantix for Scottish Terriers. We currently have her on Frontline Plus but recently found a tick on her nonetheless.

Since we don’t have tick issues up here in the great frozen north where the Scottie News makes its world headquarters, I thought I’d turn the question over to my knowledgeable readers. Comment away.

  1. Frontline does not repell fleas or ticks. They must feed and attach to die. Advantix kills and repels flea and ticks.

  2. I had horrible tick problems for years. I felt so bad for my dogs and like a failure myself. My vets all sold me the usuals. NOTHING worked. I finally found PREVENTIC. It's a collar. AMAZING. Immediately problem solved. I haven't found a tick on any of my dogs since finding this product a few years ago. I used to have to get it at a vet, but I have found them online for a better price and quick shipping. I strongly advise you try this for your doggie. Ticks can cause all kinds of problems besides discomfort. Good Luck.

  3. Do NOT ever use Advantix on any dog, especially a Scottie. My Scottie and I were at the vet this morning; I gave her Advantix last night and two hours later she was darting and charging all over the house. I washed it off of her but 24 hours later she is still charging and/or sitting in a dark closet, miserable. This is toxic to Scotties.

  4. How I hate those toxic flea @ tick applications. However, one of my beloved scotties died from heartworm. I use Revolution on my scotties now with great success. I also use the Preventic collar when traveling in more tick infested areas. I have had many breeds over my lifetime: Scotties are the BEST!!
