It’s time to update our list of the best Scottish Terrier groomers the world over. Please add your groomer in the comments and Scottie News will update the list.

You can also leave the names of not-so-great groomers to spare other Scottie owners the experience.

  1. We get Porter groomed at City Dogs in Bellingham, WA. It's where we got him groomed when I was in school over there. We've moved across the state to Spokane, but after trying two places over here with mediocre results, we've decided to just get him groomed whenever we go back to the west side of the mountains. They do a great job and they absolutely LOVE Porter.

  2. Our Scotties get groomed on our front porch. I have a great grooming set up – gets a bit cool in the winter time, but I like to let them grow out then anyway.

My philosophy is that I can ruin them just as easy as a groomer can and in the long run it will cost me less, even after I spent quite a bit on good grooming equipment. And I can do it when I want it done.

Grooming them yourself gives you a chance to get a good look at their bodies and see if there is anything out of the ordinary that you might miss if you sent them to a groomer.

  3. We have had all our scotties groomed with great results at. DOG PERFORMERS in Schaumburg, IL
I could not be happier to be able to stay with one place because they get to know you and your dog.

  4. My two boys, Dougal & Angus are both rescues from puppy mills. They started their lives out in cages and I would never dream of leaving them someplace even for a few hours if they had to go back in one. I figured if I could manage to graduate from medical school, then I could learn to groom a Scottie.
So my husband and I groom them on the dining room table in the colder months and on the front porch during the warmer months.
They may end up with a "skid mark" or two, but they are heaped with love and they are the 2 most beautiful boys in our eyes.

  5. My scottie also get "home grooming". It may not be perfect, but it has been better than the regular local groomers. I don't know of any local specialized terrier groomers. I learned about stripping from a local groomer who has Norwich terriers. I got a book and video on Scottie grooming years ago (I think from an SCTA seminar) and I've gone to a lot of dog shows, so I have a good feeling for how a scottie should look. I too love to be able to decide to do the grooming at my convenience. Now that my dog is old, I also like that I can just do a bit at a time and let her have a drink and a nap along the way.

  7. I've said it before… I have the BEST groomer in Pittsburgh, PA. She makes them beautiful and they do come back looking like a Westie and a Scottie. The Pet Stop on Library Road in Pittsburgh.

  8. Our girls go to Moppy Top in Hillsborough, NC. They're very good but we've kind of "trained" them in some details of the Scottie cut and they usually look good..ocassionally have to 'tweak' the eyebrows afterwards. We have thought maybe we should try it ourselves sometime though! We couldn't do as badly as some of the hatchet jobs we've seen! 🙂

  9. Teg's Canine Clippery in New Cumberland, PA does an awesome job with my Scottie! Andrea gives him a perfect Scottie cut and they even have someone on site for handstripping.

  10. I'm afraid Kirk won't let anyone touch her except me. She was sent to an evil groomer who eventually was sued and lost her business, not before I physically pulled Kirk out of the place after a dreadful argument over her treatment two years prior … after that my faith in dog groomers was somewhat diminished. She walks every day, so her nails have never needed a clip and I shave her as often as she will let me, but she always looks quite absurd afterwards, or at best a little different. After 8 years I’m getting better… but not much 🙁

  11. If you're in Dallas… it's Rick Fowler at High Stone Pet Lodge. Not only is he the best groomer in town, but he's also a very reputable breeder of Scotties. I found out about Rick through the Scottish Terrier Club of America. We love Rick… he's known as Daddy Rick in our house because I actually have one of his dogs AND they love to go see him.

  14. We take our trio of terriers to Loving Care Doggy Boutique in Parow, Cape Town. They love aunty Barbara. She is a breeder herself, although not of Scotties) and her parlour prepares her own dogs for shows. She does not mind that Snoekie is not all Scottie (her mommy had a secret affair with the neighbour’s Maltese and we fell in love when we went to see the illicit litter).

All the dogs that come out of there have huge smiles and look fabulous.

  15. I groom my own babies….Brydi is a wheaton and Maisie is black. I was taught grooming scotties by my grandfather. I groomed my scottie growing up..now I groom all dog breeds but my favorite will always be Scottish Terriers!

  16. I am in the UK and I use Dudley Dogz. The groomer there is great and knows exactly how to groom a Scottish Terrier. Bonnie always looks beautiful and our new puppy Clyde is booked in for his first ever grooming in a couple of weeks. We had a couple of grooming disasters but are really glad that we have foound someone so lovely who takes a pride in her work. I wish I could put a photo up but don’t know how.
